Otis College of Art and Design

Los Angeles, CA

Chief Information Officer

Otis seeks a proven IT manager/strategist with a career track record of selecting and implementing both administrative and externally facing systems solutions that: a) deliver critical functionality to customers, b) are easy to use and maintain, and c) are cost effective, secure, scalable, resilient and extensible.  For more information please see the full Position Description.

Established in 1918 by the founder of the Los Angeles Times, Otis College of Art and Design prepares students of diverse art and design disciplines to enrich our world through their creativity, skill, and vision. The five-acre Main Campus is located on L.A.’s Westside near Los Angeles International Airport (and the beach); Fashion Design is downtown, in the heart of the fashion district; and graduate studios are on the Creative Corridor in nearby Culver City and in the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica. Otis is a recognized national leader in art and design education, and currently serves about 1,100 full-time students from 39 states and 26 countries.

Selection and use of an appropriately scaled technology infrastructure is important to the success of any college. In today’s world, however, a new sensibility must be added that incorporates a sophisticated understanding of online customer service functionality, the marketing reach of social media, and ways to interact with students, faculty, alumni, donors and other constituents through smartphones, tablets and other such devices. In addition to administrative systems modules powered largely by Ellucian/Banner software, the organization provides a range of information and services through its website. It is anticipated that IT will play an increasingly important enabling role as Otis educates tomorrow’s artists and arts professionals.

The CIO will report to the Vice President for Administration and Financial Services and be supported by a small department of professionals and various contractors. Additionally, the CIO will Chair the IT Steering Committee (ITSC), comprised of key senior managers representing a cross-section of Otis key business users and departments (finance, provost, human resources, advancement). The CIO, along with the ITSC, will shape the IT footprint for Otis both externally and internally.
