The Board seeks a deeply experienced youth services professional to lead one of the nation’s most innovative programs for foster youth transitioning to independence.  The CEO has three overarching objectives, which will unfold sequentially over five years:

  • Financially and otherwise strengthen an already strong California-centered suite of programs; prepare service module templates for national replication and deployment;
  • Expand program reach nationally by partnering with local providers of youth services, and by providing technical assistance, quality assurance and fundraising support;
  • Provide national advocacy for policies and funding that improve services to foster care youth transitioning to independence.

First Place for Youth is an innovative and entrepreneurial nonprofit organization whose programs proactively challenge negative outcomes among former foster youth by building self-esteem, self-reliance, and forging skills necessary for successful independent living.

Headquartered in Oakland, First Place was founded in 1998 to end homelessness and poverty among former foster youth by focusing on housing stability, educational support, economic security, improved health, and connection to community.  Programs are evidence-based, leveraging best practices.
