Chief Development Officer
Downtown Streets Team seeks an entrepreneurial, roll-up-your-sleeves Chief Development Officer to develop and implement a plan to increase and diversify contributed revenue, and create a scalable infrastructure that supports growth.
Downtown Streets Team provides adults experiencing homelessness, and those at-risk of becoming homeless, with the resources they need to rebuild their lives. In 2005 DST started as a grassroots effort in Palo Alto to help individuals overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. Today it has active programs in 16 communities throughout the greater Bay Area, with more communities on the horizon. In any given week, nearly 500 Team Members work as volunteers on public beautification projects and in return receive a non-cash stipend to help cover their basic needs while utilizing DST’s case management services to help rebuild their confidence and dignity, secure housing and find employment. The organization has demonstrated that the model is scalable and replicable, and plans to continue growing its impact throughout Northern California. There has been interest from communities around the country in adopting the DST model locally, something that is being explored.
Downtown Streets Team is led by a dynamic founder and CEO – an excellent storyteller and fundraiser – who has relentlessly pursued her vision to build positive communities for unhoused people throughout Northern California. In this newly created position, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will create a fund development strategy and use best practices to elevate the fundraising function to support planned growth, infrastructure, and unrestricted giving, and will implement systems and processes for effective moves management. The CDO will also provide fundraising support to the CEO, Board, and the Project Directors who function as mini-CEOs in the communities where DST has a presence. The CDO will have the gravitas necessary to lead this effort and the energy and creativity to flourish in a start-up fundraising environment. For FY 20/21, Downtown Streets Team’s annual operating budget is $12M, of which approximately 50% comes from of contributed revenue. The complete position description can be found here.
