Hope Services

San Jose, CA

VICE PRESIDENT OF RESOURCES AND COMMUNICATIONS

m/Oppenheim Associates is assisting Hope Services in San Jose, CA in the search for a creative and sophisticated Vice President of Resources and Communications to build a targeted, focused contributed revenue program which will include a new, large-scale signature event. For more information, please review the complete Position Description.

Founded more than 60 years ago, Hope Services is the leading provider of programs and services that improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. The organization serves some 3500 children and adults annually throughout six counties in Northern California. The FY16 operating budget is $40.5M, of which approximately 97% is derived from government funding and earned revenue from Hope’s social enterprises. The new fiscal year is budgeted to grow to $46M, providing one of the best years in the history of the Agency. With new revenue of over $5.5M, the agency will invest in new capital expenditures for program expansion.

Hope Services expects to continue on a trajectory of significant growth driven by community need and beyond its current geographic reach. Fundraising has not played a significant role in Hope’s operating budget, raising just under $1M in FY16. With the success in strategic planning initiatives, Hope Services is poised to modernize its fundraising approach with efforts that have wider appeal to the community at large.

The primary responsibility of the Vice President of Resources & Communications is to promote a common understanding that the world is a better place when people with disabilities are fully integrated and accepted in all aspects of our culture. From a contributed revenue standpoint, this will mean that Hope will focus its energies on:

  • A new, ambitious event that will draw participants from all over the Bay Area
  • An annual fundraising event that primarily draws from the business community and those closely connected to Hope Services
  • Expanded efforts in foundation funding
  • Engagement of family members through the Family Alliance program

The ideal candidate will have substantial nonprofit or business experience in an externally facing role that includes fundraising, partnership development, business development, and/or sales, a track record of building constituencies and contributed or earned revenue, the gravitas to serve on the executive team, and with the ambition to potentially become the successor to the CEO.
