Children’s Defense Fund

Los Angeles, CA

California Executive Director

m/Oppenheim Associates is assisting the Children’s Defense Fund in the search for the California Executive Director. For more information please see the complete Position Description.

Children’s Defense Fund California (CDF-CA) currently has offices in Los Angeles (with 10 staff) and Oakland (with 3 staff) that together focus on five policy priorities for California’s children: poverty, health, juvenile justice, education and “children-first” public spending & legislative priorities. The organization requires an experienced executive to drive strong expansion of its advocacy and other programs for California ’s children. Candidates should have solid fundraising and management experience, and a passion for enabling disadvantaged children to thrive.

Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) was founded in 1973 by Marian Wright Edelman, the first African American woman admitted to The Mississippi Bar. After working with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and the Poor People’s Campaign of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, she founded CDF as a voice for children adversely impacted by poverty, discrimination and lack of a safe environment.

CDF today is dedicated to ensuring a level playing field for all of our children. It advances this mission by working with individuals, communities and policy makers to develop and fund programs that lift children out of poverty, protect them from abuse and neglect, ensure access to health care, deliver a quality education, and provide a moral and spiritual foundation to help children and youth to succeed in life.
